APR - Accredited in Public Relations

The APR designation is awarded by the Canadian Public Relations Society. It measures and recognizes a person's experience and competence in the professional practice of public relations.

What it takes . . .

Requirements for success:

  • A member of CPRS with at least five years of public relations experience
  • Sponsored by two CPRS members (one must be APR accredited)
  • A work sample accompanied by a 2,000 word presentation
  • Six written professional references
  • A comprehensive multiple choice exam
  • A three-hour essay exam, in-depth responses to five questions
  • A 45-minute interview with the national board of examiners
  • Written commitment to the CPRS code of ethics

What it brings to the job . . .

The APR designation is recognized in Canada — and through reciprocal agreements, in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Ghana, UK, Ireland, and the United States — as a badge of competence, ethics and professionalism.
